SEMA WORKING FOR YOU
USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) has put
together people from a variety of plants to make up a Focus Group. The
Focus Group will offer feedback and advice on the need to revise existing
food defense guidance materials (e.g. the Self-Assessment Checklist and
the Model Food Defense Plans) during a two-day meeting in Washington,
DC June 6th & 7th. The goal is to make the materials more understandable
and easier to use.
BIRD FLU
The American Meat Institute has an English and Spanish version of a
brochure educating consumers on Avian Influenza and poultry safety. To
learn more about the Avian Influenza or to educate your consumers, the
brochure can be downloaded and printed at www.poultrysafety.org.

CHECK SOCIAL SECURITY ON NEW HIRES
After an employee has been hired, you can check the Social Security
Number Verification System (SSNVS) to verify that the new hire’s
Social Security name and number match. It would be wise to alert applicants
that if they are offered a position, your firm will use the SSNVS to
verify the information they provided on a non-discriminatory basis. This
means you should check on the SSNVS system for all applicants, not just
some.
To access the site, go to www.socialsecurity.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm.
